Abstract

|
|
27 cases of foreign bodies in the air and food passages, encountered in the period of from May 1961 through September 1963, are reviewed and illustrative cases are presented in details.
Three cases of wooden pieces trapped in the esophagus were of special interest in this esophageal series. These were caused by the esophageal bouginage which is one of the folk treatment for so-called "Lodgement" in the upper gastro-intestinal tract.
All of the foreign bodies except one case was successfully removed. The one with an obstructive atelectasis caused by a snail in the right main bronchus could not be removed by the endoscopic procedures.
